4 Affordable Event Dress Ideas

The inspiration for this post came from me not knowing what to wear to a baby shower that I’m attending this month. I ordered a bunch of affordable dresses from Shein hoping that one would work out. I had no idea I was going to love each of them so much! I thought it would be fun to share them all in a blog post for those of you who need a few great ideas for dresses to wear to events if you’re like me and also don’t love to spend a pretty penny on a dress you may only wear once!

I am 5’9” and a size Medium across the board, but when it comes to Shein I like to size up. I got a Large in all of these dresses and only one dress (not pictured) didn’t work out length-wise. Otherwise they all fit perfectly!

Beige Pom Pom Dress

I’ve seen this style all over Instagram this summer and I’m glad I finally ordered it! It comes in a darker brown color too but I love how dainty and pretty this warm beige color is. The pom pom details give in just the right amount of interest! It is slightly sheer but I got away with nude colored undergarments with no issue, but you may want to wear a slip with it!

Polka Dot Ruffle Wrap Dress

This dress comes in a bunch of colors but I’ve been on the hunt for more blue pieces to add to my wardrobe! I love polka dots and wrap dresses are universally flattering. I probably could have gotten away with sizing up one more time with this dress for the width, but the length was perfect for me! I wish I had gotten this dress earlier in the summer!

Peach Chiffon Tiered Off Shoulder Dress

This dress is perfect for a wedding shower or guest outfit! I love the layered ruffles and this color is to DIE for gorgeous! It’s hard to see in the photos but there are thin straps that hold the dress up and also make it so the off shoulder part stays down, off your shoulders (hope that makes sense).

Floral Midi Dress

I love this dress, but when I put it on it was kind of like a mumu, I wish it had a tie to go around the waist, but with the belt it is actually my favorite dress from the whole order! Problem solved! This dress looks and feels like a $100 dress and it was UNDER $30. I still can’t believe it! It also has beautiful movement as you can see in the photos.

My Week in Outfits - August 12th

I really felt a burst of motivation this week and I am going to work really hard at picking up posting more regularly on my blog! That being said, I’m holding myself to a daunting goal of posting my real-life, mom friendly, yet still stylish outfits on here EVERY. DAY. If you know me, you are well aware that I don’t have people around me on the regular at my beck and call to take my outfit photos so I will be lugging my tripod out with me every day to get some quality shots of what I’m wearing coffee/toddler stains and all!

Come back to this post every day to help hold me accountable… let’s see how many weeks I can keep this up!

Tips and Tricks for Shopping at Shein!

For this order, I wanted to be sure I got some great pieces that I could wear on my trip to Louisiana at the end of the month. It’s super hot there and I don’t have a lot of “summer” clothes since I live in Oregon, so I stocked up on some items that I’d be comfortable wearing traveling and in the heat of the South.

1. Tie Dye Off Shoulder Top

This top is so fun! I got a medium (my true size), it didn’t have many reviews but I assumed it would run a little big since it’s boxy and flowy. I was correct! A medium fit me so perfectly. Shein sizing can be tricky but I tend to order up in size unless I feel an item will be oversized like this one. I LOVE this top! It is amazing quality and was only $16!

2. Lace Trimmed Cami

This top is a great dupe for the lace cami that is always on sale during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It sold out super fast this year as it does every year, this cami is a fraction of the cost coming in at $12. Qualirty is comparable to the Nordstrom one as well, this one actually has a little stretch to the fabric which I love! It comes in red too, I sized up to a large.

3. Lace Duster

This duster is my favorite piece from the whole order! I’ve been on the hunt for a lace kimono/duster like this for a while and I ordered this one with my fingers crossed. It is perfect! Comes in at a great length that I could easily wear with a pair of shorts, or even a dress. It comes in one size but fits like a true medium. I’m pretty broad too, so if you’re a large you’d probably be fine with this piece too! It costs a whopping $19 (LOL).

4. Floral Ruffle Skirt

This skirt is so cute and fun, and only $9! Like I said above, I normally try to size up when shopping at Shein, but for some reason I got my true size medium with this skirt and it is clearly too small. I still love it though! This style of skirt has been really popular this summer, I love the girliness of the style paired with a cool graphic tee, it really makes for a fun outfit.

Summer Whites With Loft!

The Perfect Lace Kimono Outfit

Today Dustin and I got to enjoy a few blissful kid-free hours to run all over town doing boring grown-up stuff like going to the post office, picking up toilet paper from Costco and finally getting some returns done that had been sitting in the car for a week. It felt nice to be able to speed through our errands, but I sure missed my little Stella bean! It’s funny how even a few hours apart can be so hard, but when you spend 24/7 with your little munchkin it’s hard to be away even for a little while!

I wore this SUPER cute lace kimono c/o Chic Wish, it is such a versatile piece and I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can use it as a swim cover-up or paired with some denim shorts! Chic Wish just got in a ton of super cute summer items like this dress you saw me wear on our Salishan trip on the coast, and this flowy tunic that is everyone’s favorite top! Black, white, and Alexander Wang

This has been the longest week, EVER. Whew! In the small amount of time that I've had off from work, I've been putting outfits together with great pieces that are classic to my personal style and are permanent staples in my wardrobe. This is one of these outfits: long sleeveless jacket, mini-bag, nike's, everything neutral. I just feel better when I wear black and white, and since I've been working a lot lately I'm feeling most comfortable in outfits that are the truest to my personal style as well as easy to put together.

I automatically gravitate toward black, (so much actually, that I have to make sure I'm not wearing head to toe black on a daily basis) and it's super easy to grab a couple staples in shades of grey and white and they automatically go together, effortless! 

...I know it's been around for a while now, but I'm also still really loving the "athleisure" vibe, and wearing my Nike Juvenates with everything. Literally. I went a little crazy recently and bought a handful (yes I have a shopping problem) of athletic shoes in a range of styles/colors and my feet have never felt better!

PS. how cute is this bag?! Not only is the color on POINT, it is so edgy and cool (much like all of Alexander Wang's creations) It has matte black hardware including studs all over the bottom which makes it so different! It is the perfect size, because it looks like a mini-bag but it fits more than you'd expect. I've never had an issue fitting everything I need into this little guy, and as far as designer bags go, this one is on the affordable end of the spectrum! This particular color combination is exclusive to Nordstrom, they also have other color combinations to choose from, I'll leave it linked with the other outfit details below!

Another day, another summer dress!

In case you've noticed a pattern recently between all my posts between my blog and social media, I've been a huge fan of dresses this summer. I primarily post on my days off from work, and I can't seem to get enough of easy summer styles.. nothing is more effortless than throwing on a dress and running out the door! I'm obsessed with this new brand I've discovered called Olive and Oak, this little dress is from them and it is my new favorite piece. Everything about this outfit is so ME; leather jacket, booties, bib necklace, all of it!

Obviously thrilled that my backdrop is an apartment complex.

The sweetest wrap dress for summer

This dress is PERFECTION. I was hesitant to buy it because it is so different for me, usually I'm into dark colors, leather, grungy, 90's inspired sort of fashion, but my friend talked me into it and I am so happy she did. This summer is all about muted pastels and neutrals, and I'm slowly growing my collection of pieces within the color palette that are effortlessly chic, but also just plain effortless. 

...I'm slowly but surely teaching my boyfriend to be an instagram husband. I think he's doing great so far!

I paired this dress with an oldie but goodie Topshop jacket that I've had forever, its distressed which is an homage to my grungy personal style, but it is also in a light wash which makes it current and great for summer. It isn't available at the moment but Topshop has released it for a couple springs in a row so I wouldn't be surprised if they brought it back again (I also linked some really similar styles by the same brand, so check those out!) These booties are my trusty BP Trolleys, I have about 7 pairs in different colors and I wear them with 99% of my outfits for work, they are SO comfortable, basically the perfect bootie.
