Tips and Tricks for Shopping at Shein!

Fall is in full swing here so I definitely went all out sweaters and cozy vibes for this order. I know not all of you live in climates that allow you to wear sweaters yet, but take advantage of my discount code while it lasts to get this sweaters ahead of time for when the weather allows for you to wear them! Striped Oversized Sweater

OKAY. This sweater is the one item you need from this try-on… if you don’t buy anything else, BUY THIS! I love the look of this sweater, plus it is incredible quality! I should have gotten my regular size, but as you know I always size up with Shein so I am wearing a Large here and it is really big. Comes in a tan stripe option too which is just as cute! Odds are I’ll order that one too for how much I love this sweater!

Tie Front Thermal Top

This top is so fun with the color blocking. It’s not something I would normally reach for but I thought it was a fun change to what I usually reach for! It also comes in a black, white, and grey combo too, if you’re more into neutrals. This top totally reminds me of my favorite Urban Outfitters button down thermals that I have in a bunch of colors. Runs pretty true to size and feels super soft and cozy!

Leopard Print Denim Skirt

If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed my favorite fall outfit. Sweaters and skirts are such a fun way to transition into the cooler months while it’s not too cold to have bare legs! I love a good denim skirt and although the denim doesn’t feel of the utmost quality, I can see myself wearing this all season long with a cozy sweater front tucked in like in the photo above! My sweater is also from Shein last year, and is still available. I’ll link it below!

Striped Sweater & Babydoll Dress

I thought these last two pieces looked cute together, this dress is only $8 (shook) and comes in a handful of colors. It is slightly sheer so I’ll wear a slip with it when I wear it out of the house. It is such a flattering silhouette with the shape of the seam, it’s dramatically curved which gives a slimming effect, love it!

This sweater is under $20 and super versatile! I know I’ll get a ton of wear out of it for fall. I love it paired with my favorite OTK boots (currently on sale too)!

Affordable Off The Shoulder Top and Snakeskin Shoes!

Fall came to Portland overnight and I am so excited for everything that comes along with the cooler weather (although I could do without the non-stop rain)! Sweaters, apple cider doughnuts, hot cocoa, chunky knit scarves, boots and booties, I could go on and on! This adorable off the shoulder top has been on major repeat for me since it came in, I love the color and the weight is perfect for fall because it’s lightweight enough to not get too hot but covers enough to keep you warm during this transitional time of year. Plus, how cute is this color?! It comes in a few other colors, runs true to size and it SO affordable for all of you frugal fashionistas like myself!

Everyone is all about the snake print trend, and these AMAZING shoes that I got last winter are back this year and available right now in all sizes! They are surprisingly comfortable for being a point toe heeled shoe and they are perfect for daily wear. Paired with a good pair of dark wash skinnies (and of course a hat), this look is 100% my go-to vibe for the cooler months.

Trending Now - Leopard Print!

Happy Wednesday! You guys better be ready for a busy, fun filled few days. I’m already tired thinking about my packed schedule, but I’m also excited for the events planned! Keep up with me via Instagram stories if you want to follow along with the craziness!

We had so much fun at the pumpkin patch this past weekend I couldn’t wait to share these photos with you all! I didn’t want to overload my Instagram with pumpkins so I figured I’d share them on here in case anyone wanted to see the ones’s that didn’t make the cut on my feed. Believe it or not the group picture was taken with a camera propped up on a pile of pumpkins in a wheelbarrow and it took a better picture than the two strangers we asked to help us prior! It’s not easy using a DSLR if you don’t know how, so I don’t blame them. Thank goodness we had a wheelbarrow photographer to fall back on!

I got this super cute, SUPER affordable leopard print cardigan to wear to the pumpkin patch and it really spurred my need for more leopard print items. I’ve been doing a lot of shopping lately (as usual) and it’s no secret that leopard print is trending this fall so I have found tons of cute pieces I wanted to share with you guys many of which are in my cart, I’m just trying to narrow it down so I don’t have a wardrobe full of leopard haha! Tips and Tricks for Shopping at Shein!

Shein is totally one of those retailers that seems too good to be true. I can agree that it feels totally crazy that this website can get away with selling $10 t-shirts and $15 jeans, but if you’ve seen the targeted ads on your facebook, you know that this is a real thing. So the question is, how good is this stuff, actually? Will I really be getting what I see in the picture? How to I ensure that I order a quality item? Well, I’m here to answer all of those questions and more in this post! I get DM’s on Instagram whenever I share Shein pieces with questions about what I really think about shopping there, I hope in this blog post I can answer everything you’ve ever wondered about shopping at Shein.com.

1. Look for items displayed on a model.

   I try to only purchase an Item that is displayed on a person, not just a hanger. If I order an item displayed on a hanger, chances are I’ve seen the piece on another blogger or friend! You can check their Instagram pages @sheinofficial and @shein_us and view tagged pictures to view items on customers and bloggers. Their hashtag is #sheingals or #sheinus which should also bring up plenty of pictures featuring Shein items.

2. Check Instagram

Head to Shein’s Instagram page and check out the tagged photos! Also check out their hashtags (#sheingals #shein). I love to see how an item will look on a real person and not just in the styled stock photo on a retailer’s website, Instagram is a great resource for that. Also be sure to check out hauls and try-on’s from your favorite bloggers, I have a bunch saved in my “Shein” highlight on my Instagram profile page. I have found some of the best pieces by ordering items I’ve seen other people share in their Instagram stories!

3. Read Item Reviews

1. This goes hand in hand with with the first tip! Read the reviews and look for the reviews with customer photos. This helps especially well with “One- Size” items. I tend to only order items that have amazing reviews with pictures attached.

   4. Pay Attention to Sizing

   Sizes are all over the place for each item on Shein. Grab a tape measure whenever in doubt and physically measure your body and compare to the detailed info they provide on their site. I tend to size up when I’m feeling unsure, but always measure if you’re on the fence! I’ve ordered items in my normal size that could fit a chihuahua so I always measure twice and reference their sizing before placing my order.

   5. Plan to Wait For Your Order

   Shipping can sometimes take a whilt, so expect to wait! Since items are coming from over seas, items can take anywhere from one week to three weeks to arrive, so don’t place an order with items you need ASAP, just in case it takes on the longer end of the spectrum to arrive. If I am ordering for an event or a shoot I will always order a month in advance to make sure that 1) the item arrives on time, and 2) I also have time to find a replacement in case the item is not what I expected. You can always expedite shipping if it’s super important as well! I have also gotten lucky and ordered items that have taken less than a week to arrive, it all really just depends by item.

   6. Returns are Not Necessarily Worth it

   There have only been two items total that I’ve received from Shein that have not worked out for me. I decided it would be easier to donate the items than deal with returns since I’ve heard returns can be a huge hassle and shipping costs tend to be more than the items price anyway, I have never actually experience it myself though. I have heard you can pay a few bucks for insurance that makes returns more affordable which is always an option as well! Returns are accepted 30 days from purchase, some items are non-returnable though so double check the fine print before ordering!

   7. Be Prepared for a Wrinkles

   This is where I give you the number one advice that you will ever get for online shopping from ANY retailer, not just Shein. INVEST IN A STEAMER. Items ordered online tend to come in a crumpled mess. Remove the wrinkles before you wear your online items out and about. I promise them they’ll look ten times better and higher quality than if you rock the wrinkles. This is the portable steamer I use. It’s super affordable and works like a charm, also fits well in a suitcase if you travel frequently!

Overall I have had pretty great success with my purchases from Shein! Items are affordable and on trend, great for the fashionista who likes to change things up seasonally without breaking the bank. THE PERFECT FALL OUTFIT

This week has been extra busy, full of amazing events! I think since I started blogging this has been the busiest I've been between blogger meetings, the Create & Cultivate panel, and the Portland Fashion and Style Awards (in a few days), amongst others! I've been having the time of my life and I couldn't be happier that I've gotten the opportunity to be a part of these amazing gatherings. I've exchanged information with more creative entrepreneurs than I can count on my fingers and toes combined and I'm excited to cultivate these relationships and business partnerships! 

That being said, there has been much outfit planning and preparation going into this weeks festivities and I was happy on my off days to wear something a little more casual. Cue this fabulous chenille sweater! This cutie is SO comfortable, and comes in so many fun colors it was hard for me to choose! As most may know, I used to lean (heavily) toward only neutrals (namely, black) for essentially everything in my wardrobe, but when I became pregnant I had the opportunity to branch out with some fun maternity pieces because I knew they wouldn't be permanent staples in my closet. Needless to say, I wish they were! I had so much fun with color I decided to begin wearing more of it regularly, after my little one was born too. Color is so much fun and I realized it isn't something to be scared of. Also (SUPER IMPORTANT) there's no such thing as "I can't pull this color off" or "that color doesn't suit me" I don't believe in those sayings and I think if you like the damn color, wear the damn sweater! On the other hand I'm super guilty of saying things like "that color looks great on you!" or "this is SO your color" I guess I need to take my own advice and stop saying that since I really believe anyone can wear any color (except skin colored leggings, please don't wear those).  I get so many comments like that on Instagram, and nothing drives me more nuts. I think becoming a mom helped me to realize that you can essentially do anything and style is no exception (plus all modesty is gone anyway, so why worry about anything, especially something as significant as the color of your shirt?)

Once I overcame my irrational fear, when I stopped really caring what anyone else thought of my outfits, fashion became even MORE fun (didn't even know it was possible, honestly) and my wardrobe became more well-rounded and exciting. I wasn't looking at ten white shirts that all looked the same, or 25 pairs of black jeans. I got to look at my pieces and discover amazing colors and textures and prints, of course I still like my black jeans but I've added denim with more interest... distressing, embellishments, etc. And who ever knew that it is actually easier to create an outfit with color and patterns than it is an all black ensemble?! Yeah. I never would have know either. 

Ok, ok I'll get back to this outfit. 

TOP TREND OF 2017: CHENILLE EVERYTHING

I knew I wanted to jump on the Chenille trend ASAP. I've loved anything soft since I was a little one, my mom can vouch for this as she reminds me when I was young, once she felt a little hand tugging on the side of her velvet dress feeling the fabric. I've always loved interesting textures and fabrics so Chenille was a no-brainer, and I'm stocking up majorly so when they're no longer on trend I'll have back stock for a long time (haha).

I'm not going to lie, I saw this on a few people before I went to try it on. I wasn't sure if it would be TOO cropped on me since I'm a giant and often cropped sweaters show too much and defeat the purpose of keeping me warm, which is important in the Pacific Northwest. The color is AWESOME, and such a rich hue of pea soup (HAHA), I was instantly obsessed, I actually ordered the hot pink and the cream later on since they went on sale a day later.

These jeans are also from Express and although I ordered the tall thinking I was tall enough, I had to cut the hems to make them about a foot shorter (does my sarcasm translate through here?) so if you're shorter than a giraffe (5'9") order the regular length. The distressing is perfect though, just the right amount and the jeans are a really BLACK, black which can be hard to find sometimes. 

Sorry, the shoes went on sale and sold out in about 5 minutes, but I'll link some others that are almost identical and just as cute! But if you have yet to get a pair of leopard shoes this season, just pick up a pair already! It is such an easy, fun, statement trend that anyone can rock. Just do it.
